Death is a natural part of life, but it can also be a challenging and uncertain time for both the dying person and their loved ones. However, there is a practice that can bring comfort and peace during this time: chanting the Name of God. Chanting God’s Name is important during the time of death for both the dying person and their loved ones.
Importance of chanting god’s name during death
The benefit of taking Bhagawan’s name is provided clearly in Bhagawad Gita. It states one who remembers the Supreme Lord while dying reaches the Supreme Lord Himself.
ओमित्येकाक्षरं ब्रह्म व्याहरन्मामनुस्मरन् । यः प्रयाति त्यजन्देहं स याति परमां गतिम् ।। – SB.8.13
The one who dies while chanting ‘Om’ and remembering me is elevated to a very high level after death.
अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेवरम् । यः प्रयाति स मद्भावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशयः ।। – SB.8.5
There is no doubt that the one who remembers me while dying reaches me.
If someone doesn’t practice chanting God’s name, they stay trapped in the same type of living being for a long time because they don’t have any inner or external energy. Without protection, these souls are easily controlled by negative energies for years. To gain more momentum, they need the help of rituals called shrāddha-karma for their departed ancestors.
On the other hand, if someone chants God’s name while dying, they continue to have sāttvik energy in their body. This prevents them from going to Martyalok (the realm of the dead) and instead, they move forward based on their karma.
Chanting name for the blissful afterlife
To have a meaningful life and a blissful afterlife, a person should follow the rules of Hindu Dharma and continuously practice spiritual activities. This creates an impression of God’s Name in their subconscious mind and helps them go beyond body awareness. This leads to overcoming the cycle of birth and death.
If someone does not practice chanting God’s Name, they may remain trapped in one type of living being for a long time or become controlled by negative energies. However, if they chant God’s Name at the time of death, they continue to have Sattvik energy in their body, avoiding going to the realm of the dead and instead moving forward based on their actions.
What should be done if someone’s death is not immediate?
If someone is dying but their end is not immediate, a donation of salt should be given to them, or casting off the evil eye using salt and bhakari (Indian bread) should be done. This helps open the gates of Heaven for the person and lessens the control of negative energies over them.
This prevents their pran (vital energy) from getting trapped in their body and causes less agony for the dying person. Negative energies may try to take control of the dying person or prove their superiority, causing them to get trapped in their body instead of leaving it effortlessly.
When to chant ‘Ram Naam Satya Hai’?
Losing a loved one is very difficult. Grief can be overwhelming, and it can be hard to accept the loss. In Hinduism, chanting “Ram Naam Satya Hai” during the last rites helps grieving families feel better.
“Ram Naam Satya Hai” reminds people that life is temporary. Hindus believe that death is just a transition to the next life. This chant helps mourners understand that death is a natural part of the cycle of life.
This chant pays respect to Lord Rama, a figure known for his virtues. His name is believed to bring comfort and relief. By saying his name, mourners seek his blessings for the departed and themselves.
“Ram Naam Satya Hai” helps the departed soul on their journey after death. Hindus believe that the soul continues to exist, and its journey depends on its actions in life. By chanting, mourners offer prayers for the departed’s soul and hope for their release from the cycle of birth and death.
This chant is a way to show gratitude to the departed soul. Hindus believe that the departed soul is aware of their loved one’s actions. By chanting, mourners thank the departed soul for their time together and ask for forgiveness if any mistakes were made.
Chanting the Name of God helps a person avoid getting trapped in the realm of the dead and instead move forward based on their actions. Continuously practicing spiritual activities creates an impression of God’s Name in a person’s subconscious mind, leading to overcoming the cycle of birth and death. Without this practice, a person may remain trapped in one type of living being for a long time or become controlled by negative energies.
