Goddess Matangi is the ninth Tantric goddess of Dasha Mahavidya. She is a ferocious aspect of the Divine Mother Durga. She is said to be the Tantric form of Saraswati who is the goddess of art, music, and learning. Hence Goddess Matangi is also known as Tantric Saraswati. She governs speech, knowledge, music, and the arts.
Worshipping Goddess Matangi, one can get supernatural powers mainly gaining control over opponents, attracting people to oneself and gaining mastery over arts, and attaining supreme knowledge.
Although Goddess Matangi is compared with Goddess Saraswati, She is often associated with pollution and impurity. She is considered an embodiment of Ucchishta (उच्छिष्ट) which means leftover food in the hands and the mouth. Hence, She is also known as Ucchishta Chandalini and Ucchishta Matangini. She is described as an outcast and offered left-over and partially eaten food i.e. Ucchishta to seek her blessings.
