Sharad Purnima, also called Kojagari or Kojagara Purnima, is the full moon of the Ashwin month and in 2026 it falls on Sunday, 25 October. On this night Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped, kheer is kept in the moonlight, and many families keep a night-long vigil (jagran), which is where the name Kojagari comes from.

What is Purnima?
In the Hindu calendar, Purnima (also spelled Poornima) is the full moon day. It is the fifteenth lunar day (Tithi) of the Shukla Paksha (the waxing phase of the Moon), marking the culmination of the moon's journey from darkness to complete illumination. Purnima represents abundance, spiritual completion, and positive cosmic energy. It holds immense significance in Hindu religion, astrology, and spiritual practices.
Spiritual Significance of Purnima Vrat & Fasting
Observing a fast (Vrat) on Purnima is one of the most common and powerful spiritual practices in Hindu households. It is believed that fasting on this day balances the body's water content (reducing the lunar tidal effects on our emotions and mental state) and brings emotional harmony.
- Satyanarayan Pooja: Performing the Shri Satyanarayan Pooja and reading the Vrat Katha on Purnima is believed to solve family obstacles, heal financial issues, and bring peace and happiness.

What is Adhik Maas Purnima?
An **Adhik Maas** (or Malmas / Purushottam Maas) is an extra lunar month added to the Hindu calendar approximately every 32.5 months to align the lunar calendar with the solar year. When a lunar month becomes an Adhik Maas, two Purnimas occur within the same solar sign. The first full moon is labeled **Adhik Purnima**, and the second is the normal (Nija/Shuddha) Purnima. Adhik Maas Purnima is considered extremely sacred for the worship of Lord Vishnu (Purushottama) and chanting holy names, though regular festival celebrations are observed on the Nija Purnima.

अधिक मास पूर्णिमा क्या है?
