Mahishasura Mardini

Mahishasura Mardini Stotram, popularly known as Aigiri Nandini is a part of Bhagavati Padya Pushpanjali Stotra (भगवतीपद्यपुष्पांजलिस्तोत्र) which is popularized by Ramakrishna Kavi. The story of Jai Jai Mahishasura Mardini was introduced by Rishi Markandeya in Devi Mahatmayam. Adi Shankaracharya composed Mahishasura Mardini Strotram (Aigiri Nandini) as a commentary.

It can be seen that After the 6th verse of Bhagavati Padya Pushpanjali Stotra, Mahishasur Mardini Stotram starts, which has 27 verses, and then remains another three verses of Bhagavati Padya Pushpanjali Stotra. Aigiri Nandini is sung in praise of Goddess Chamundeshwari and describes how She destroyed many Asuras.
